Built Different Featuring Dr. Aissa: Connecting the Body, Building a Business, and Leading With Purpose

What happens when a healthcare professional realizes the traditional system isn’t designed to truly help people heal?

For many clinicians, the answer is frustration. For Dr. Aissa, the answer was transformation.

In Episode 104 of Mindset, Health, Empowerment: The Unfiltered Trainer, part of the Built Different Series, I sat down with holistic fitness expert, physical therapist, speaker, and author Dr. Aissa, the founder behind Connect The Body Dots. Our conversation explores what it looks like to move beyond the conventional healthcare path and create something rooted in purpose, education, and empowerment.

This episode isn’t just about physical therapy or fitness. It’s about the courage to question systems, the power of understanding your body, and the journey of stepping into leadership when you realize you were meant to do more.

If you have ever felt called to create something bigger than the path laid out in front of you, this conversation will remind you that sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is build differently.

From Physical Therapist to Purpose Driven Founder

Like many healthcare professionals, Dr. Aissa entered the field of physical therapy with the goal of helping people heal and improve their quality of life.

But as she moved deeper into her career, she began to notice a pattern within traditional healthcare. Many patients were being treated for symptoms rather than addressing the root causes behind their pain and dysfunction.

This realization sparked an important question.

What if healing required a deeper understanding of the body, not just temporary treatment?

That question became the foundation of the work Dr. Aissa does today.

Rather than staying confined to a traditional clinical model, she began exploring a more holistic approach to movement, injury prevention, and body awareness. Over time, that exploration evolved into something bigger than a career shift. It became a mission.

What Holistic Fitness Actually Means

The term holistic fitness gets used frequently in the wellness space, but it is often misunderstood.

For Dr. Aissa, holistic fitness goes far beyond exercise routines or rehabilitation programs. It involves helping individuals understand how different systems of the body connect and influence one another.

Movement, mobility, strength, nervous system regulation, injury prevention, and body awareness all work together.

When people begin to understand these connections, they are no longer dependent on constant treatment or external solutions. Instead, they develop the tools and knowledge to take ownership of their health.

This philosophy is what inspired her brand and methodology.

Connect The Body Dots.

The idea is simple but powerful. When people learn how their bodies actually function, they can start making choices that support long term wellness rather than temporary fixes.

The Reality of Becoming a Founder

Transitioning from clinician to entrepreneur is not a small step.

In our conversation, Dr. Aissa shared the challenges that often go unspoken when professionals begin building businesses in the wellness space.

Becoming a founder means stepping into new roles that were never taught in healthcare training programs. Leadership, marketing, business development, communication, and brand building all become part of the journey.

There is also the emotional side of entrepreneurship.

Self doubt.
Risk.
Uncertainty.

But for many founders, purpose becomes stronger than fear.

For Dr. Aissa, building her business allowed her to reach more people, educate communities, and create a model that focuses on empowerment rather than dependency.

Writing Connect The Body Dots

Another major step in her journey was becoming an author.

Her book, Connect The Body Dots, was written to help people understand how their bodies function and how different systems influence movement, pain, and recovery.

Rather than being written only for healthcare professionals, the book is designed to be accessible to everyday readers who want to better understand their bodies.

The goal is simple. Give people knowledge they can use.

When individuals understand their bodies, they gain the confidence to move better, prevent injuries, and make more informed decisions about their health.

Writing the book also expanded Dr. Aissa’s impact beyond the clinic and beyond social media.

It positioned her as a thought leader in the conversation around holistic movement and injury prevention.

What It Means To Be Built Different

At the heart of this conversation is a powerful theme.

Being Built Different does not mean rejecting the systems you came from. It means evolving beyond them when you realize your purpose requires more.

For Dr. Aissa, being built different means:

• Questioning outdated approaches
• Educating people instead of creating dependency
• Empowering individuals to take ownership of their bodies
• Building a business that aligns with your mission

For many women in healthcare, fitness, and wellness, this message resonates deeply.

There are countless professionals who feel the pull to do something bigger, but fear keeps them stuck in familiar systems.

This episode is a reminder that transformation often begins with one simple thought. There has to be another way.

Advice for Women Ready to Pivot

Toward the end of the conversation, I asked Dr. Aissa what she would say to the woman listening who feels called to do something bigger but is afraid to step outside the traditional path.

Her message was both honest and empowering. Growth rarely happens inside comfort zones.

The moment you start questioning whether the current path is aligned with who you are becoming, that is often the beginning of your next chapter. Purpose does not always arrive with a clear blueprint. Sometimes it reveals itself as you take the first step.

And when you do, you may realize something powerful.

You were never meant to fit the mold. You were meant to build something different.
