There are books you enjoy, and then there are books that make you finally understand why everyone has been talking about them. Never Lie was one of those reads for me.
This was my third book in The Chapter I’m In series, and by the time I finished it, I fully understood why it’s one of Frieda McFadden’s most talked about thrillers.
First Impressions
From the beginning, the story takes its time laying a strong foundation. The pacing is steady, and while nothing feels rushed, it never feels boring either. Every detail feels intentional, even when you’re not quite sure why yet.
At first, I thought I knew where the story was headed. I had a twist in mind. I was wrong.
And then I was wrong again.
The Plot Without Spoilers
What makes Never Lie stand out is how the plot unfolds layer by layer. Just when you think you understand what’s happening, the story shifts. The twist you expect is not the twist you get. Then the book surprises you again, and again, keeping you engaged until the very last page.
It’s one of those psychological thrillers that keeps your mind active without overwhelming you or relying on shock value alone.
Why This Book Works
One of the things I appreciated most about this read was how approachable it is.
The chapters are short and easy to get through. The writing is clear and simple without lacking detail. It gives you enough information to stay invested, but never so much that it feels heavy or drawn out.
This is the kind of book you can pick up for a few minutes and suddenly realize an hour has passed.
My Rating
⭐️ 8.5 out of 10
It’s engaging, easy to read, and consistently entertaining. While it wasn’t my highest rated Frieda McFadden book so far, it absolutely earned its reputation.
The Chapter I’m In
Right now, I’m drawn to books that hold my attention without demanding too much mental effort. Stories that let me be fully present, entertained, and curious without overcomplicating things. Never Lie fit perfectly into this chapter of my life.
If you enjoy psychological thrillers with multiple twists, fast moving chapters, and a storyline that keeps you guessing, this one is worth adding to your list.
Final Thoughts
Never Lie is a great choice if you’re looking for a thriller that’s easy to read but still delivers suspense and surprises. It’s a reminder that sometimes the most effective stories don’t need to be complex, they just need to be well told.
If you’re following along with The Chapter I’m In series, this was a solid installment and a fun read from start to finish. I’ve linked them all in my Amazon Storefront.
