Week two of this new chapter has looked quieter. Slower. Softer.
It has looked like ending a long day, stepping out onto my balcony or sinking into my couch, opening a book, and letting the world fade out for a while. No timer. No agenda. No expectation that the moment needs to be productive.
Just reading.
Somewhere between turning pages and telling myself just one more chapter, I realize I have missed my bedtime. And instead of guilt or stress, there is something else.
Joy.
The unfamiliar kind that shows up when you are not worried about deadlines, outcomes, or what comes next.
The Crash by Freida McFadden
This week’s read was The Crash by Freida McFadden.
Without giving anything away, this psychological thriller pulls you in quickly and keeps you there. The pacing, the tension building steadily, and before you know it, you are fully immersed in the story.
What made this book special for me was not just the plot. It was how easily I could disappear into it. No overthinking. No analyzing. No pressure to extract a lesson or apply something to my own life.
Just the simple pleasure of being absorbed.
When Rest Stops Feeling Like a Reward
For a long time, rest felt like something I had to earn. It came after the work was done, after everyone else was taken care of, after the boxes were checked.
But this chapter is teaching me that rest does not need permission.
Sitting on my balcony with a book as the sun goes down. Curling up on the couch after a long day. Losing track of time because I am genuinely enjoying myself.
That is not laziness.
That is not avoidance.
That is living.
Missing Bedtime for the Right Reasons
There is something deeply healing about staying up late because you want to, not because you have to. Missing bedtime because you are anxious, overwhelmed, or trying to catch up feels draining. Missing bedtime because you are caught up in a story that brings you joy feels different.
It feels light.
It feels playful.
It feels like reconnecting with a version of yourself that knows how to enjoy the moment without rushing to the next thing.
That feeling is happiness. The kind that does not need to be explained or justified.
Embracing the Chapter You Are In
Week two of The Chapter I’m In series has been about allowing joy to be simple. About letting myself enjoy something without attaching meaning or productivity to it.
This season is not about pushing harder or doing more. It is about balance. About choosing moments that feel good. About giving myself permission to rest, reset, and enjoy the quiet spaces in between everything else.
If you are in a chapter where your nervous system needs softness, where your days feel full, or where joy has felt postponed, consider this an invitation.
Pick up a book. Sit somewhere comfortable. Let yourself get lost in it.
Not everything needs a deadline.
Not everything needs a purpose.
Sometimes, it just needs to make you feel alive again.
